Benefits of a Hosted Phone System (PBX)

I have been going through the process of upgrading my phone system to something a little more professional. It used to be set up so that it would ring a series of mobile phones before being transferred back to the office. The main reason for the investigation into a new system is because of how unreliable it was.

This got me investigating into the term Hosted PBX (Private Branch eXchange). You probably have heard the term PABX with the extra A meaning analogue. This is what the majority of business phone systems run on and moving to a digital system is where they are moving to.

When upgrading to a new phone system, there are two main ways of going about it. Self hosting the servers or using a Hosted system. In the first situation, you have far greater control over the whole setup and implementation and services are limited to the business location.

A hosted system, however, gives you not quite as many controls (less to break?) but the costs are far less and allows you to have phones in locations around the world as if it was located in one office.

One of the main reasons I chose to upgrade was the need to be linked into the office whilst on the road. With the hosted system, I simply start up an app, login with my credentials and presto an instant portable phone extension. The best part is that it runs in the background allowing calls to come in at any time.
